I also went through some reviews about the FoodSaver FM2000, and found these helpful:
- FoodSaver suggests that before you vacuum seal gassy or cruciferous vegetables, you have to thoroughly cook it. This applies to cabbage, garlic, onions, broccoli and cauliflower. These release natural gas that would be trapped in the vacuumed bag.
- I have no problems with the manual operation of FoodSaver FM2000-FFP Vacuum Sealing System. It is not at all tedious. I researched on how it is with automatic operation, and got this: in MANUAL, you put the bag in the slot, make sure it is lined properly and then you press start. An AUTOMATIC sealer detects the bag inserted and automatically does the vacuum-seal process.
- While others lamented the lack of a built-in roll holder and cutter, an old lady said this feature makes a bulkier and heavier machine, and she did not particularly like it since she had arthritis. I personally like the size as it is. I don’t really need to store the roll in there, and there is always a handy pair of scissors for cutting. Just cut a straight line though, so you don’t waste the roll.
- I tried using different brand of bags, and had a difficult time until I came across this handy info from another FoodSaver user: ordinary bags can be used to just seal the food, but to vacuum seal, use the FoodSaver bag with the different texture.
- Since our mean machine is for business use, we do so many seals at one given time, and part of me worried we were working it too hard. I read from another user that it can seal up to 30 units then rest it for 15 minutes. I was actually resting in between seals, and it made the work slower. Now I know better.
- The most common problem of any vacuum sealer is it will not seal. Most times, there would be no problem with the machine. You have to make sure there is no moisture or crumbs in the area where the seal is.
- Finally, another user suggests if you have a full or heavy bag being sealed, hold on to the heavy end while it vacuums and seals so the bag won’t be pulled down by the weight. If it is pulled down, there can be wrinkling in the bag and the vacuum wouldn’t be as airtight. Still another user suggested putting a wooden cutting board at the front of the sealer to hold the weight of the bags.
